This article is useful for gCast users that have a Parent/Child hierarchy, have access to a Parent account in that hierarchy and have assets they want to copy in bulk from the parent account to child accounts.

An introduction to 'Push Down' functionality

    Who can push down assets?

Which assets can you push down?

How do I push down an asset to a child account?

How do I schedule assets to push down to a child account?

    Introduction

In a gCast Parent/Child hierarchy, parent accounts have the ability to 'Push Down' various assets to some or all of their child accounts. Pushing down assets from one parent account to many child accounts can be a massive time-saver for larger hierarchies.

If the original asset in the parent account is modified at a later date, any copies that have already been pushed down to child accounts will not adopt those modifications. Child accounts that have the asset pushed down to them after the modifications have been made will receive the modified version. You cannot push down the same asset again to a child account that has already received a pushed down version.

The 'Push Down' functionality operates in the same way as 'Copy' (in that it creates a new, stand-alone copy of the asset in the nominated child account/s) but it gives you the ability to perform bulk operations as well as the ability to schedule the action whenever new accounts are added.

Demographic questions are the exception to the rule of creating a new stand-alone copy during the push down process. Pushing down a demographic creates a linked copy of the demographic which has restricted editing options for the child account. For more information on 'Linking' demographics in gCast, please follow the links at the end of this article.

Pushing down an asset is not the same as 'Sharing' or 'Copying' an asset however. For more information on 'Sharing' and 'Copying' assets in gCast, please follow the links at the end of this article.

    Who can push down assets?

Only a parent account in your hierarchical structure has the ability to push down assets. If you have a login to the parent account in your hierarchy then you should be able to see push down options on various assets.

Which assets can you push down?

The assets that you can push down to child accounts in your hierarchy include:

    • Campaigns
    • Templates
    • Surveys
    • Custom demographic categories
    • Trackable links
    • Promotion codes

How do I push down an asset to a child account?

You must be in 'edit' mode on an asset to see the push down options.

When editing a campaign, survey, or custom demographic category in a parent account you will see a 'Push to Sub Partners' tab. When you click on the tab, it will display the available options for pushing that asset down to child accounts (For templates, trackable links, and promotion codes the placement of the 'Push to Sub Partners' options is a little different in that it is located on the edit page itself (as these assets don't have separate tabs)):

In the 'Sub-partners' area select the option that best fits who you want to push the asset down to:

    • Select the 'Direct sub partners' option to push the asset to only those accounts that sit directly underneath the parent account in your Parent/Child hierarchy (child accounts only, does not include grandchild or great grandchild accounts)
    • Select the 'All sub partners' option to push the asset to every single account (except the current parent account) in your Parent/Child hierarchy
    • Select the 'Selected' option to cherry-pick the child accounts in your hierarchy that you want to push the asset down to

To push the asset down immediately, click on the 'Copy Now' button.

To check that this has worked, navigate to one of the child accounts that should have had the asset pushed down to them and check that it is there.

How do I schedule assets to push down to a child account?

To schedule future push downs of an asset you must be in 'edit' mode of that asset.

Click into the 'Schedule copy process' checkbox and enter in a date when you want the push down process to start, and a date when the process will end:

The option to 'Only send to sub partners whose join date is on or after...' is especially useful if you have accounts in your parent/child hierarchy that don't need a copy of the asset but where you want to automatically push down the asset to new accounts as you create them.
